A BIT ABOUT Northern Ireland Photographic Association (NIPA)

Usually, the clubs are strictly over-18s only, or some might be allowed but accompanied by an adult.   To be honest, I don't really enter the competitions, but it's up to you if you do or don't. These are a great alternative to courses in a school or college in Northern Ireland, and membership is usually very affordable.  NIPA and the individual photo clubs hold exhibitions in the year in Belfast, Ballymena or their towns from members.  I am currently a member of the Focus Photography Club, which is connected to NIPA.  This obviously has nothing to do with my own photo business, but it is also a hobby of mine.  Also, check out Philips' YouTube channel.

Photography Club Craigavon

I am currently with the Focus Photography Club, and there are lots of great areas and locations within County Armagh to explore.  It is especially aimed at the Craigavon and County Armagh area, including Portadown and Lurgan.  I recently rejoined this club in 2024.  There were several local outings and shoots within the club, such as Oxford Island and Hoys Meadow.  Below is just a small random collection of my photos and images taken within the camera clubs.  The photo club meets every one week up to Christmas and every two weeks in Brownlow Community Hub, 7 Brownlow Rd.

This is just a small random selection of photos and images throughout the years in no particular order, as I started off here in about 2015 and then went to DCCC and have come back to the local club lately.  Both great clubs.

Portraits in Brownlow Community Hub

Sometimes we have portrait photo shoots in Brownlow Community Hub, Craigavon, where they meets on Thursday evenings.  The building is beside the old leisure centre.   This is usually using some form of lighting, like a softbox and grid, to help control the light photographed on a black or textured background.   The room in The Hub is quite small, but it does ok for photo shoots.

Portraits at Tannaghmore Gardens

Sometimes we have a portrait photo shoot at a popular spot called Tannaghmore Gardens, which is about a 10-minute drive away from Brownlow Community Hub.  Tannaghmore Gardens is a great location, with plenty of areas ideal for photos.  Sometimes, lighting the model with a softbox or natural light.  There is an animal farm beside the gardens, but we didn't visit there.  Within the gardens, there is a maze and a kids' playground.  Tannaghmore Gardens is well-maintained by Craigavon Borough.

BTS Photos in Portadown and along the River Bann

Some behind-the-scenes (BTS) photos I captured in a club outing in Portadown, close to the River Bann and Bann Bridge.  The area we went to was old abandoned houses, just about 5 minutes away from Garvaghy Road.  The theme was graffiti on some of these, as you can see from the pictures.  There are varied cameras on display with members using Sony, Nikon, Fuji and Canon.  One or two of the members brought soft boxes, which can help with the lighting.

Weekly Photo club Challenge

Sometimes there are friendly competitions.  The theme here was cold, so I went out the back garden in Portadown and took some quick pictures of frozen ornaments and plants.  It was during the winter months.

Photography Club Dungannon

Some of my Dungannon and Cookstown Camera Club photos are below.  The club is located in County Tyrone, which in turn is also part of NIPA, and there are a few outings, photo shoots and learning tutorials within the club, including portraiture, landscapes and wildlife.  The photo club is called Beyond the Lens - DCCC  on Facebook.  Below is just a small collection of my photos taken within the club.  I still have to upload videos that I have filmed throughout the years, including behind-the-scenes (BTS) videos.  The club meets every Wednesday in Annaginny Fishery Park Farm, located at 40 Annaginny Rd.
